SLOVENIAN MOUNTAINS ON WHEELS

DAY 1: LJUBLJANA – POKLJUKA

Transfer from airport JP Ljubljana to Pokljuka. Free time for leisure and individual activities, overnight.

DAY 1: POKLJUKA

In the morning you will take your bike and start discovering Pokljuka. Your ride passes the Zajavorniki mountain pasture and takes the forest path to the northern edge of the Pokljuka plateau. Klek mountain pasture is your next waypoint – the highest in the day. A short recovery break will help us get ready for the descent to the Biathlon Centre at Rudno polje. The stopover at the farm nearby is a great opportunity to taste a traditional local cheese. We are close to Vila Triglav, where we finish our activity. The afternoon relax at Vila Triglav will be more than welcome. The route lenght can be adjusted according to special wishes and we strictly avoid any traffic. The total lenght of this tour is about 42 kilometers with 800 m of ascent on macadam roads and some single tracks.

DAY 3: POKLJUKA – BOHINJ –  ZAJAMNIKI – USKOVNICA – VOGAR – SAVICA

A forest road will take you from Vila Triglav to the Zajamniki mountain pasture. The Zajamniki mountain pasture is very typical with shepherd cottages positioned in a street. You can enjoy great views on Triglav and surrounding mountain tops, across Lake Bohinj to the Vogel mountain, further east to the mountain ridge of the Bohinj mountains. You will even cross the Hudičkov most (Devil’s Bridge). More demanding cyclists are invited to the ascent 500 m to Vogar mountain pasture. You will take lunch in the mountain hut on Vogar. A mountain edge with a great view on Lake Bohinj and all the mountains around is a popular starting point for paragliders. The optional shortcut is descent from Uskovnica to Ribčev laz by the outflow of the Lake Bohinj. Lake Bohinj is the biggest natural lake in Slovenia, created by tectonic and glacier activities. It is 4.3 km long, 1.2 km wide and 45 m deep. The Savica creek is its main water source, coming into lake in the Ukanc area on the western part of the lake. You will mostly ride on macadam and few tarmac roads on this tour and we tend to avoid traffic. The length of the trip around Bohinj is 50 kilometres with 1000 m of ascent.

 DAY 4: BLED – RADOVLJICA – KRANJ

This interesting and picturesque tour leads from the Pokljuka highland via the Galetovec panoramic view point to Bled. A great view on the central Gorenjska region and the Karavanke gives us a kick to go deep into this nice part of Slovenia. Lake Bled is a glacial lake with a unique natural island in Slovenia. You then head towards confluence of the Sava Dolinka and the Sava Bohinjka rivers and another historical town – Radovljica. A typical main street and the main square with a church are good reasons for a stopover or we can have a look at it from the other side of the Sava river. You will pass a few typical villages and head to the eastern part of the Jelovica highland. More demanding bikers will face a macadam road to Mohor. Mohor is a local hill with a nice church at the top, but much more interesting due to a great view. The comfortable option for the finish this day is a descent to waterfall Šum and the remains of ancient roman spa. Transfer to Pokljuka by van. The tour is 60 km long mostly on tarmac and macadam roads. You will make 1200 m of ascent.

DAY 5: FREE DAY

Free for leisure. Use your day for relaxing and resting or join us on one of our special daily excursions.

DAY 6: KOFCE

The day starts with a transfer to Tržič, a small town in the valley, which continues into the heart of the Karavanke. This is a historical town on the strategic point by an old trading way over the mountains to the north. You will head north and take macadam forest road to Šija alpine pasture. Clear days offer a great view to all peaks of the Košuta ridge. Great food at the pasture will give you enough energy for semi-demanding descent to Tržič. You can choose between a partly single way down or an easy macadam road we drove on the way up. More demanding mountain bikers can push the pedals to the east to some other mountain pastures and descent later in the afternoon. Transfer from Tržič to Pokljuka is organized. The length of the tour is about 32 kilometres with 1200 m ascent and it may be made longer if desired.

DAY 7: RADOVNA – MOJSTRANA – KRANJSKA GORA – PLANICA – RATEČE

The tour to Planica begins with a descent from Pokljuka to the Radovna valley. Fresh alpine climate, nice views and interesting countryside make the valley shorter than it is. Mostly macadam road guides us into the Krma valley which is one of the starting points to climb Triglav, the highest Slovenian mountain. Tarmac biking trail leads you from Mojstrana close to the foot of steep rocky mountains Špikova skupina to Kranjska Gora through the valley of the Sava Dolinka river. Zelenci – the source of the Sava Dolinka river is located beside a slightly ascending tarmac bike trail. You will enter the Planica valley – another alpine valley – cut into the high and steep Julian Alps, which continues into the Tamar valley. Planica is the birth place of the longest ski jumps and ski flying. More demanding bikers will get an opportunity to continue to the Tamar mountain hut (additional 5 kilometres uphill). This technically easy trip is 52 km long, with the total ascent of 600m. Transfer from Rateče to Pokljuka is organized after lunch.
